Uttar Pradesh Legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar was convicted on December 16, 2019 by a Delhi court for raping a teen. The crime took place in 2017. The court said that a tirade had been unleashed on the victim and her family where the 'imprints' of Sengar had been 'quite visible'. The case had garnered national attention after the victim had attempted suicide at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence over inaction. The court also pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation for delay in filing chargesheet, and not showing sensitivity to the victim.
