Direct tax code to be made operational by next year

Union finance minister, Pranab Mukherjee, on Saturday said that the government would roll out a long-awaited direct tax code (DTC), aimed at simplifying archaic tax laws from next year. Speaking at a seminar in Kolkata, Pranab said the government would be forced to cut subsidies except the essential commodities such as food.
