Heavy rains in West Bengal and Assam resulted in massive water logging revealing the unpreparedness of state authorities that remain unequipped to deal with such situations. Floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains has forced thousands of locals to flee, inundating villages as the overflowing Brahmaputra river and its tributaries burst its bank and torrents of water washed away homes and destroyed crops. Locals in Jalpaiguri on Monday said that they have not received any help from the state government and their condition remains miserable.
