Locals in Imphal suffer as blockade in Manipur continues

Commuters in Imphal have been making a beeline at filling stations because of economic blockade called by the tribal Naga community. The indefinite economic blockade has been called by the All Naga Students Association (ANSAM) and All Tribal Students Union, Manipur,to protest Manipur's decision of not allowing separatist Naga leader,Thuingaleng Muivah,to visit his birthplace in a Manipur village. The NSCN-Isak-Muivah (NSCNIM) has been operating a ceasefire with New Delhi since 1997 with the two sides holding close to 60 rounds of peace talks aimed at ending one of India's longest running insurgencies.
