India's regional Samajwadi Party said that it has received an offer of electoral alliance from the main opposition alliance BJP. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters in Lucknow that the NDA convenor, George Fernandes had broached the idea of a tie-up. Yadav said his response was that the BJP should drop its main poll plank of building a temple dedicated to Hindu god Lord Ram at the site of a razed 16th century mosque.
