Stepping up his attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the party of indulging in vote-bank and appeasement politics while referring to its promise of reviewing AFSPA. In its manifesto, Congress claimed that it would “Amend the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 in order to strike a balance between the powers of security forces and the human rights of citizens and to remove immunity for enforced disappearance, sexual violence and torture.” Modi claimed that the amendment of the act would demoralise security forces.
