A Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in a joint security operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on July 8, police said. The encounter took place in the Chanpora area and was carried out jointly by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Shopian, the Army's Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). While officials did not immediately disclose the identity of the slain terrorist, sources told Hindustan Times that the militant was Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Zakir Gania.
