Revealed: Putin's secret warning to USA on 'nuclear Pakistan' - ‘just a Junta with…’| Russia | Bush

Newly declassified U.S. transcripts revealed previously secret exchanges between former President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin over Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program. Released on December 23, the documents detailed meetings and calls from 2001 to 2008, including a 2001 Slovenia meeting where Putin warned Bush that Pakistan was a non-democratic military state with nuclear arms. Both leaders voiced concern over proliferation risks under Pervez Musharraf and discussed A.Q. Khan’s network, Iran, North Korea and NATO. The disclosures came months after Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir issued stark nuclear threats toward India, adding fresh urgency to the revelations.
