Firefighters battled a fast-moving wildfire in the Sierra Calderona on Saturday, using ground crews and aircraft after around 1,000 people were evacuated from the nearby town of Gatova. The blaze, which began near Segorbe in Castellon province after a lightning strike on Thursday, had affected an estimated 423 hectares by Friday. Steep terrain and shifting winds made containment difficult as the fire showed “violent” and “extreme” behaviour.
