German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated an abrupt gas embargo would not bring quick peace to Ukraine. Speaking to Der Spiegel, Scholz said it is important for Germany to avoid a serious economic crisis. As per reports, Germany is currently buying around 25% of its oil and 40% of its gas from Russia. Proceeds from the sale of Russian energy amount to around $1BN/day, eroding efforts to put pressure on Putin.
