Manmohan Singh defends India’s record on NPT

Even as the odds of the US-India civil nuclear cooperation agreement being approved by US Congress have been improving, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sought to allay fears over India not being a signatory of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. While addressing the U.N. General Assembly on Friday Singh emphasized that India was looking to nuclear energy to help meet its rising energy needs.
