Coach Amir Ghalenoei didn't say who ordered the Iranians to leave earlier than planned. “They didn’t even give us time to recover,” Ghalenoei said through an interpreter. “After the game today, they said to us, ‘You have to leave immediately.’ It’s very important for us to have time for recovery, (but) we are asked to get on a plane and return to our camp in Tijuana, and we are really troubled by that.”

The Iranians’ World Cup cycle has been in upheaval since the U.S. and Israel began a war against Iran on Feb. 28. Iran ultimately decided to compete even after FIFA rejected its request to move its three group-stage matches out of the U.S.

US Iran war LIVE: Oil prices extended losses on Tuesday, as markets weighed prospects for resumption of supply through the key Strait of Hormuz against shaky physical market drivers and a lack of details from a preliminary deal to end the Iran war.

By 0436 GMT, Brent crude futures fell 25 cents, or 0.3%, to $82.92 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate inched down 9 cents, or 0.1%, to $80.66 a barrel.

On Monday, oil prices fell nearly 5% to their lowest close since March 4, after U.S. President Donald Trump said a memorandum of understanding was signed to end the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, though full details have not been made public.

The hostilities led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz that typically carried one-fifth of the world's oil supply before the conflict.

Some analysts expect a resumption of supply soon via the Strait, with other factors weighing down physical market prices.

"From here, it likely takes several weeks for tanker flow to be restored," Morgan Stanley analysts said in a client note.

"We see 50% of production back by September, and 80% by December, slightly faster than before."

A broad range of indicators had signalled weakness in physical oil markets in recent weeks, they added.

US Iran war LIVE: Iran foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Washington must ensure that Israel stops fighting in Lebanon under the agreement.

Lebanon was pulled into the war in early March when Iran-backed Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel after the killing of Iran's supreme leader, prompting Israeli strikes and a ground invasion.

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country's forces would remain in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza "as long as necessary".

He said the war with Iran had spared Israel from the Islamic republic's threat of "nuclear annihilation", while Israeli figures across the political spectrum criticized the deal.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun welcomed the agreement during a call with Araghchi, saying he hoped it would be a "positive step towards reducing tensions".

Lebanese state media later reported the first deadly strike since the announcement, saying the Israeli attack in the south killed one person.

Hezbollah, which thanked Iran for insisting Lebanon be included in the deal, said it had repelled an Israeli force trying to "advance" in southern Lebanon.

US Iran war LIVE: As the United States and Iran work towards signing a peace deal to end the nearly three-month-long conflict in West Asia, US President Donald Trump appeared confident of the agreement as he arrived in France for the 2026 G7 Summit. However, back in Washington, the story is different.

The Trump administration remains doubtful of Iranian intentions towards the peace agreement, Axios reported. CIA Director John Ratcliffe told Trump and other senior officials of the administration about the doubts about Iran's willingness to stick to the nuclear concessions sought by the US.

Along with Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth have also raised their concerns regarding the 14-point memorandum of understanding.

"The intelligence reflects that the Iranian intentions are not in line with their commitments under the deal," Axios said, citing a source familiar with the matter.

However, the report added that Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are confident and advocated for the deal.

Along with this, scepticism around the deal also reached Capitol Hill.

“I think that my understanding of what it entails — and, again, not having seen anything — it would require, I think the issues are going to be compliance, and how are you going to enforce that,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters. Read full report here

The BSE SENSEX stood at 76,526.77 points, up by 262.44 points or 0.34 per cent, while the NSE NIFTY 50 gained 70.00 points or 0.29 per cent to trade at 23,923.90 points in early trade.

The initial surge reflects an accumulation of positive domestic sentiment alongside a distinct shift in foreign institutional investor flows.

Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market expert observed that domestic conditions remain supported by structural changes in foreign capital deployment.

"Indian markets are showing a positive bias with FII flows turning positive for the last two trading days. If this trend holds, a big overhang will be removed from the Indian markets," Bagga said.

Analysing the broader international landscape, Bagga said, "Asian markets are soft this morning as markets mull the contours of the Iran-US deal, the time to recovery of normal tanker traffic from the Gulf and of crude oil prices to stabilise at below USD 70/bbl."

US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Iran would have to satisfy US demands never to build a nuclear weapon and cut off support for militias like Hezbollah in Lebanon in order to get those benefits.

Iran agreed to sharply curtail its nuclear program in a deal signed in 2015 with the US and other countries. Trump withdrew the US from that accord during his first term as president. That agreement allowed Iran to regain billions of dollars in frozen assets, which Trump has frequently derided as sending "pallets of cash" to Iran.

Spot gold was up 0.2% at $4,315.87 per ounce, as of 0231 GMT, after rising as much as 3.6% on Monday to hit its highest level since June 5.

US-Iran war LIVE: The Indian rupee's upward momentum, which has lifted it to a one-month high, is likely to stall on Tuesday with markets assessing the durability of the Iran peace deal and whether the dip in oil prices will be sustained.

The rupee is expected to open largely flat against the U.S. dollar after climbing 0.42% on Monday to 94.71. The currency has rallied 1.1% over the last two sessions to 94.4525, buoyed by a slide in crude oil prices following the Iran‑U.S. peace deal.

"It's fairly straightforward from here: if the drop in oil holds up, there is room for a move to 93.50 to 94," a currency trader at a bank said.

"If the drop proves temporary, then it's back to rupee being under pressure. I am inclined to think that this possibility should not be ruled out in the midst of the current news flow."

Brent crude on Monday dropped to $82.40, the lowest level in more than three months. The key question for the outlook of the rupee and other emerging market currencies is whether this decline in oil prices will hold, which in turn will largely depend on the durability of the U.S.-Iran peace deal.

Markets on Tuesday settled into a more measured tone on developments in the Persian Gulf after the initial excitement over the agreement between Washington and Tehran began to fade. Oil prices edged higher, while Asian equities and currencies were mostly weaker and U.S. Treasury yields rose.

"Uncertainty remains around the details of the (US-Iran) negotiations and the path around reopening (of the Strait of Hormuz)", analysts at MUFG Bank said in a note.

US-Iran war LIVE: A supertanker sanctioned for its role in moving Iranian oil is moving toward the Persian Gulf, testing a US blockade that’s been in place since mid-April.

The Tejas was spotted approaching the Gulf of Oman on Monday with its transponder switched on. It’s the first observed sanctioned vessel to approach the area while broadcasting its position since the US and Iran agreed to an interim deal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel’s draft suggests it is not carrying cargo.

Most sanctioned vessels have operated with their transponders turned off. The US naval blockade has forced several ships with ties to Iran to alter course and disabled vessels that ignored instructions, making the latest voyage a closely watched indicator of changing enforcement conditions.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump said Hormuz “is already partially opened,” and “it’ll be completely opened” on Friday. A sustained return of sanctioned tankers could offer an early indication of easing access through the strait.

Separately, a Joint Maritime Information Center advisory said measures targeting Iranian shipping will stay in effect until June 19, when the interim deal takes effect.

The vessels sailed through on Monday evening, marking the first operational victory of the newly finalized memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, the report said, adding the vessels had been ‘stranded for months’.

But Vance admitted the brief outline deal kicks the thorniest issues -- especially Iran's nuclear program -- down the road.

"The MoU is about a page and a half, so it is a very general document," Vance told CNN.

He later said on NBC that US and international nuclear inspectors will be allowed back into Iran to help destroy its enriched uranium.

Vance will lead technical talks this week and attend a physical signing ceremony expected in Geneva, Switzerland.

US-Iran war LIVE: Republicans on Capitol Hill said Monday they need more information about the agreement between the United States and Iran announced by President Donald Trump, and some are expressing skepticism as they ask the White House for details.

The agreement announced Sunday to end the war in Iran, set for a ceremonial signing Friday in Geneva, is centered around reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the United States’ naval blockade in the region, along with financial incentives for Iran if it meets certain benchmarks. But Senate Republicans and Democrats who returned to Washington on Monday said there were still many unanswered questions about the deal and they need thorough briefings before it is finalized.

“I just don’t know enough about it,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., told reporters in the Capitol. “Even the people who follow this stuff closely up here don’t know that much about it.”

Congressional leaders and intelligence committees generally receive higher-level intelligence briefings before rank-and-file members, and they are notified of major developments before they are announced. But Thune said he had not been personally briefed on the deal.

“I think that my understanding of what it entails — and, again, not having seen anything — it would require, I think the issues are going to be compliance, and how are you going to enforce that,” Thune said.

Thune’s concerns were echoed by several other GOP senators.

“If it’s a secret deal then how can I take it seriously?” asked Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina.

Vice President JD Vance told ABC News on Monday that the White House would release the text this week, “and what everybody will see is that Iran doesn’t get a dime of money unless they perform their obligations.”
