D John Sauer became the 49th Solicitor General of the United States on April 4, 2025. Before that, he served as Solicitor General of Missouri from 2017 to 2023. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation as a lawyer, especially through his work in high-profile cases.

Sauer is now at the center of one of the most important legal battles of the year. The Supreme Court of the United States is hearing a case on whether Donald Trump’s executive order limiting birthright citizenship is constitutional.

This case is expected to be difficult. A ruling in favor of Trump could challenge a long-standing understanding of the Constitution and create new challenges for US citizens when documenting newborns
