At least 23 people were killed and another 20 injured in the past month in local elections-related violence, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday.

The Barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) elections were held simultaneously on Monday in which an electorate of 51 million voted to elect 671,920 village and youth officials from among more than 1.3 million candidates.
PNP were put on the highest security alert on Sunday ahead of the election involving 4,355 villages or 10.3 per cent of the total nationwide under its watch list.
