Mitt Romney picks up Washington state caucuses

Mitt Romney won the Washington state caucuses Saturday night giving his campaign much needed momentum just days from the biggest day of the primary season, Super Tuesday.

But this would be a symbolic victory as the delegates will not be chosen until much later. The candidates were all away in Super Tuesday states campaigning. But it's a victory, and Romney won't mind it.

Though called the frontrunner, Romney had struggled to stay ahead, first challenged by Newt Gingrich and then by Rick Santorum, who is riding a surge.

But Ron Paul, who has yet to win a state, came in second, edging past Santorum. Gingrich came fourth and last.

While Mitt Romney has won seven of the 12 states, Santorum won four states and Gingrich won one state. Ron Paul has not won any state.
