Police sources said Shabnam went to SECL, Dhanpuri plant to seek donation for organising a public event at Sai Temple, but she was beaten up by sub-area manager AS Babu and his aide Rajjan Singh. Later, Shabnam reached Chachai police station and lodged a complaint.

Shabnam told HT over phone that Rao passed vulgar comments on her. “When I objected he abused and beat me up. Later, Singh, who works as contractor at SECL also beat me and tried to sexually abuse me. But, somehow I managed to escape and lodged a police complaint,” she said.

She further said she had also gone to the SECL office last year to seek donation. “Last year, Babu had given me Rs 5,100, but passed vulgar comments and sought some indecent favours. But I didn’t report to police thinking that this is a common perception of the people for our community. He repeated the same this year and when in objected he beat up me,” Shabnam said.

Shabnam Mausi was elected as MLA from Shohagpur constituency of Anuppur district in 2000.
