2012, a year of remakes in Bollywood

A host of old hit Bollywood films will see their remakes this year. Big stars and trusted storylines make these films the much-awaited releases of 2012.

A host of old hit Bollywood films will see their remakes this year. Big stars and trusted storylines make these films the much-awaited releases of 2012.

Original: The film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty and Madhavi released in 1990. Directed by Mukul Anand, it is considered a cult classic.

Remake: The remake is being produced by Karan Johar and directed by his former assistant Karan Malhotra. Lead actors Hrithik Roshan’s and Priyanka Chopra’s chemistry, Sanjay Dutt’s bald character Kancha Cheema, Rishi Kapoor’s negative role and Katrina Kaif’s item number, Chikni Chameli, have made this one quite an anticipated 2012 release.

Original: Titled Vikramarkudu, The Ravi Teja- Jyothika starrer Telugu film directed by SS Rajamoulli was a big success. The film is about a small time thief who takes revenge for the murder of his look alike.

Remake: Prabhu Deva is directing the film with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, and is slated for a June release. After along time, Akshay kumar will be seen in an out and out action film.

Sai Paranjpye’s 1981 comic film, starring Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval, was about a group of Delhi University students. It was a hit at the box office.

Remake: The film’s director David Dhawan has launched an online hunt for the film’s title, promising R25,000 to the winner. Starring Pakistani actor Ali Zafar, South star Siddharth and Tapsee, the film may see actor Anupam Kher play a triple role.

Bol Bachchan
The film is based on the 1979 all time hit Gol Maal that was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and starred actors Utpal Dutt and Amol Palekar. In the film, Palekar lies to Dutt, who plays his boss, about having a twin brother to keep his job.

Remake: Director Rohit Shetty is remaking the film with actors Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgn. Shetty has bought the rights of the original, but maintains that the film is only inspired by the original film. The remake, which stars Asin Thottumkal and Prachi Desai in female leads, is being shot in Rajasthan.

Original: The Telugu film directed by Surender Reddy and starring Ileana D’Cruz and Ravi Teja, released in 2009. The blockbuster revolves around a guy, who loves to do crazy things just to get a kick out of them.

Remake: Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha have been signed to do the film that will go on the floors in the middle of the year. It is being produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and will reportedly be made in 3D. According to reports, Salman will perform the most difficult action scenes for the film.

Son of Sardar
Original: Maryada Ramanna is a Telugu comedy thrill starring Sunil and Saloni Aswani. Directed by SS Rajamoulli, the film is about a man who falls in love with a woman, whose uncle was murdered by his father.

Remake: The Ajay Devgn- Sonakshi Sinha starrer has reportedly retained the basic plot of the film, except that the film is set in Punjab, with Ajay Devgn playing a Sikh character. Actors Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla are also working in the film.
