A new song, Monobina, from Akshay Kumar’s upcoming sports-based film Gold was unveiled on Tuesday. Starring Akshay and Mouni Roy, who plays his wife in the film, Monobina boasts of foot-tapping music and is meant to raise spirits.

Sharing the song on Twitter, Akshay wrote: “Foot tapping music, crazy lyrics, a hook step and #Monobina make this song pure #Gold!”

The song features some of the members of the cast, including Vineet Singh (who plays a character called Imtiaz) and Amit Sadh (who will appear as Raghubir Pratap Singh), as they raise a toast to hockey and free India. Akshay as Tapan Das, the assistant manager of India’s pre-independence hockey team, is shown to be in high spirits as he breaks into rapturous praise for his wife, named Monobina Das. Akshay is a sight to behold as he gets into his vigorous dance mood in a dhoti. Mouni, however, as a typical Bengali woman, suits her get up well, and may even remind you of Sharmila Tagore at her prime.

Gold documents the journey of Tapan Das, who dreams of winning India’s first gold in hockey, in this fictional setting.

Also starring Vineet of the Mukkabaaz fame, Karan Kapoor (playing coach Samrat), Amit and Sunny Kaushal as Himmat Singh, the film has been directed by Reema Kagti.

The film also marks Mouni’s Bollywood debut. She gained fame on Indian television, playing the role of ‘naagin’ (female cobra) in Ekta Kapoor’s supernatural TV series Naagin and as Sati in Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev. Her upcoming Bollywood projects include Ayan Mukherji’s Brahmastra, RAW - Romeo Akbar Walter with John Abraham and Made in China alongside Rajkummar Rao.

Meanwhile, Akshay walked out of Mogul, the biopic on music magnet Gulshan Kumar, over script issues. His upcoming films include Rajinikanth starrer 2.0, Kesari and Houseful 4.
