I am not a conformist: Nushrat Bharucha

Actor Nushrat Bharucha shares that she would rather be remembered for a few films than do a lot of forgettable movies

Actor Nushrat Bharucha doesn’t like to be put in a mould or be asked to plan ahead. A free spirit, the Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety (SKTKS) actor says that she doesn’t want to have a plan, as that may take away from the magic of being in the industry. She says, “I am a very zone-specific person. For example, if I put all the pieces of a puzzle together, it’s done, so there is nothing to look forward to. I have always been a person who does things differently. I would rather do four films and be remembered for them than do 20 forgettable ones,” says Nushrat.

The actor says that her parents have come to understand her journey after the success of SKTKS. “They understand that I was working hard. I was trying really hard to achieve something, and now I have it. They are not thinking about how far this goes or where it will take me. They are happy that I am enjoying this phase.”

Although things are looking up for Nushrat, the Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) actor says her grandmother regularly urges her to “settle down” in life. “My parents have been after me for five years, telling me to get married, and my grandmom talks about it everyday. However, I don’t understand how certain things work. Like, why does my mom have to wake up and make breakfast for everyone? I am not a conformist. So, for me, it will be a different life, and for now, I want to see how each day goes by. I want to do it my way. I remember there was a point when I wanted to have three kids; two of my own and adopt a third. But I realised there will be a time for that. Now, when the time comes, I may just settle for one.”
