Rupee plunges to record low, closes near 70 a dollar

The rupee crashed by Rs 1.08 or 1.57 per cent to end at historic low of 69.91 against the US dollar following fears that Turkish economic crisis could engulf world economy

The rupee plunged on Monday by Rs 1.08 or 1.57% to close at all-time low of 69.91 in the interbank foreign exchange market.

It had touched 69.62 per dollar in early trade, tracking broader weakness in other emerging market currencies on concerns of a spill-over from a crisis-hit Turkey.

The rupee had ended at 68.84 to the dollar on Friday.
