The Vashi police on Wednesday registered a first information report (FIR) against actor Ajaz Khan and six others for allegedly assaulting a model and the director of a fashion show in Vashi. At the time of going to press, no one had been arrested.

According to police, Khan arrived at the auditorium of the CIDCO Exhibition Centre at sector 31A in Vashi at 7pm on Tuesday, to participate in the fashion show India Design Week. “Khan had not been invited to the show by the organisers, but was called by one of the designers as a celebrity model,” said Sopan Rakhunde, sub-inspector. “Khan was upset as he had not been given a separate changing room, and got into an argument with the show’s director. Khan and his bouncers then attacked him. Another model intervened to stop the fight but also got hurt,” Rakhunde said. Khan left after the fight and the show, which was scheduled to start at 8.30pm, was cancelled.

The director and the model sustained injuries and a case was registered under sections 143, 147, 149, 294, 323, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). “The complainants also said Khan filmed women models on his phone and sang vulgar songs. However, we cannot confirm this as we haven’t checked his phone yet,” Rakhunde said.

Meanwhile, Khan denied the allegations and said he has not received a call from the police. “It was a badly organised event, and the models were not provided food, water or AC. I heard some people arguing over the payments as well. The organisers then called bouncers and a fight broke out between them and the models. I tried to stop them.” “I don’t think my name is in the FIR or else they [police] would have called me. It is irresponsible... to blame me. I am a punching bag. A model has taken a video of the incident and I have proof I was not involved,” he said.

Khan has starred in a number of low-budget films and is known for his appearance in a popular reality TV show.
