Barnala farmer booked for stubble burning

A farmer has been booked for stubble burning, Barnala deputy commissioner (DC) Harpreet Singh said on Tuesday. Avtar Singh of Pandher village, near Dhanaula, was found burning stubble on his 1-acre farmland, he said.

“The action has been taken on the directions of the Commission for Air Quality Management. An environmental compensation (fine) of 5,000 has been imposed under the Air Quality Management Rules, 2023,” the DC said.

The administration stated that 40 cluster assistants and 254 nodal officers, appointed to prevent stubble burning in the district, were keeping a strict vigil.
