Chandigarh sizzles at 38°C, IMD issues yellow alert for humidity
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 38°C on Friday before beginning a gradual decline from Saturday onwards
After several days of the maximum temperature hovering around 36°C, Chandigarh witnessed a sharp rise in mercury on Thursday, with the day temperature climbing to 38°C. The reading was 4.7 degree Celsius above normal, making it the highest maximum temperature recorded in the city so far this July. Last year highest maximum temperature recorded in the month of July was 36.9 degree celsius and 39 degree celsius in 2024.
Residents have been advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses. (HT File)
The minimum temperature remained almost unchanged over the past 24 hours, settling at 26.3°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 38°C on Friday before beginning a gradual decline from Saturday onwards. The minimum temperature is also likely to start decreasing after Friday and is expected to stabilise at around 25°C by Monday.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert, warning of hot and humid conditions at isolated places in the city for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Residents have been advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
