A gang of burglars targeted the locked house of a judicial magistrate in officers’ colony and decamped with taps and sewerage covers.
On being informed, the Division number 8 police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Police lodged a first information report (FIR) against unidentified burglars.
The complainant, head constable Kuldeep Singh of Shankar, who is the gunman of judicial magistrate Nirmala Devi, told police the magistrate had gone to Phillaur on October 22 after locking the official residence, Kothi number 40, in Officers’ Comoly and returned on Monday.
The family was shocked to find the house ransacked. Taps from the bathroom and lawn besides metal covers of sewerage were stolen. They immediately informed the police.
Sub-inspector Avtar Singh, who is investigating the case, said the unidentified accused have been booked under section 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police said the accused have been captured in closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed near the residence and teams are scanning the footage to identify them.
Officer’s Colony is the high-security zone, as several judges, Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, and Public Service Commission officers reside in the area. All the officers have 24x7 security cover.

Unidentified persons had broken into judicial magistrate Anubha Jindal’s house in Officers’ Colony near Old Session Chowk. However, the peon spotted them and raised the alarm, forcing the intruders to beat a hasty retreat.
