Ludhiana: Woman found dead, husband booked for abetting suicide

The Salem Tabri police have booked a man for allegedly abetting the suicide of his wife, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at their house. The accused was booked following a complaint filed by the mother of the deceased.

The police have registered a case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The complainant alleged that her daughter had left her home around five years ago to marry the accused. The couple had a son. Later, the accused allegedly started quarrelling with the deceased and harassing her over petty issues. The complainant said the continued harassment drove her daughter to take the extreme step of hanging herself. The incident came to light on Friday evening when the accused called his wife’s family and informed them that she had hanged herself at home.

He told them that he had taken down her body, locked the house and left the key near the gate. He then asked the family to reach the house. The accused subsequently switched off his mobile phone and went missing. Before leaving, he had reportedly dropped his son at his sister’s house. The victim’s family reached the house, collected the key and entered the premises, where they found her dead. They immediately informed the police.
