Poster menace continues unabated in Haryana cities: Congress MLA

He said the intentions of the government to keep cities clean in Haryana is suspected as no action is taken against those pasting posters on government buildings. The Congress MLA said there are no public places in cities, including bridges, where posters have not been pasted illegally.

He said the intentions of the government to keep cities clean is suspected as no action is taken against those pasting posters on government buildings. The Congress MLA said there are no public places in cities, including bridges, where posters have not been pasted illegally.

“Don’t you notice all this while travelling across the state? All the public places are full of this nuisance. Entire Haryana is in the grip of such unauthorised posters and flexes, turning our cities dirty...,” said Batra, asking why the government is not taking action.

Responding to the question of the Congress MLA, the urban local bodies minister, Kamal Gupta said that the state government has enacted the Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989, under which authority concerned can take action against illegal pasting of posters and flexes on government buildings. Also, there are provisions in the Municipal Acts to deal with such cases, he added.

The minister also apprised the House that on detection of illegal pasting of poster/flexes on government buildings, the authority concerned may take suo motu cognisance and action on the basis of complaint. The minister tabled the data regarding the action taken by municipalities in the state in the last three years against illegal pasting of posters and flexes.

However, Batra said the ground realities are contrary to the claims the minister was making regarding the action taken.
