Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Varun Sharma on Thursday said there would be a special focus on gangsters to curb organised crime, while strengthening policing and grievance redressal in the district.

To check street crime, Sharma said Mohali police would increase night patrols, set up static and mobile checkpoints and improve the deployment of Dial 112 Emergency Response Vehicles.

He said he would personally hear public grievances during fixed office hours. He also said the police would work with market and trader associations and resident welfare associations to address security concerns.

Regarding protests, he said traffic management would remain a priority to prevent disruption to commuters and ensure the movement of ambulances, school vehicles and essential services. The SSP said the department would conduct a manpower audit in line with the state government’s directions and shift personnel from non-core duties to police stations and other frontline units.

Earlier, police officers, including SP (City) Dilpreet Singh, SP (H) Navreet Singh Virk and SP (Investigation) Sourav Jindal, welcomed him.
