GMDA to spend ₹8.60 crore on green belts along 7 Gurugram roads

The project will include tree and shrub planting, with contractors given six months for development and three years for upkeep across key sectors.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will spend over ₹8.60 crore to develop, upgrade and maintain green areas along seven key sector-dividing roads in the city, with three tenders already floated, officials said.

Contractors awarded the work will have six months to complete the development of the green spaces, followed by 36 months of maintenance.

GMDA CEO PC Meena said green areas will be developed along the sector-dividing roads in sectors 47/49, 47/50, 43/53, 43/52A, 44/52, 45/52 and 46/51. “The initiative is part of GMDA’s broader efforts to improve the city’s green infrastructure while simultaneously addressing stormwater management and waterlogging concerns during the monsoon,” he said.

Meena said the authority had cleaned and prepared several green belts on roads before the monsoon. Debris and accumulated material were removed, while ground levels were lowered at suitable locations to facilitate the flow of rainwater into the green belts.

GMDA officials said the spaces will be developed to absorb additional rainwater runoff during the monsoon. “The work will involve planting good quality trees, shrubs and taking care of them for three years,” he added.

“Once properly landscaped and maintained, the proposed green belts will function as ‘green lungs’ for the surrounding urban areas, contributing to improved air quality, enhancing the visual environment and providing much-needed green spaces amid the city’s expanding built-up areas,” Meena said.
