Five killed, as many injured as SUV overturns in U.P.’s Lakhimpur Kheri

At least five people were killed and five others sustained minor injuries when a speeding sport utility vehicle (SUV) carrying a dozen passengers overturned and fell into a roadside ditch near Atariya village under Pallia kotwali area of Lakhimpur Kheri district on Tuesday morning, police said.

The mishap took place on Bhira-Pallia highway when the SUV was on its way to Pallia from Shahjahanpur district, they added. “Five people were killed in the accident after a vehicle overturned after the driver lost control,” superintendent of police of Lakhimpur Kheri Sanjeev Suman told media persons.
On getting information, Pallia kotwali police rushed to the spot and with the help of locals took the five injured to neighbouring Pallia health centre where they were reported to be out of danger.
The deceased included two primary school teachers identified as Umesh Gangwar (36), a resident of Kanakpur village and Harnam Chandra (31), a resident of Padampur village both in Rampur district.
The other three deceased were identified as Raj Kishore (54), a resident of Hardoi district, Vinay (40), a resident of Sukkhanpurwa village of Kheri district and Matiulla Khan (64), a resident of Ibrahimpur village in Kheri district. Basic shiksha adhikari, Kheri, Dr Laxmi Kant Pandey and primary teachers’ union district secretary Manoj Shukla have condoled the death of the two teachers.
