SP MP booked after calling PM Modi ‘anti-national’ at Mahoba protest

Samajwadi Party MP Ajendra Singh Lodhi was booked in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district early Tuesday, hours after he allegedly called Prime Minister Narendra Modi “anti-national” during a protest over electricity supply issues and challenged authorities to take action against him.
The FIR was registered at 2.05am at Mahoba Kotwali police station on a complaint filed by BJP district media in-charge Satyendra Pratap Gupta.
Police said sections 132, 189(2), 352 and 196(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) were invoked in the case and an investigation had been initiated.
Lodhi made the remarks during a Samajwadi Party demonstration outside the district collectorate on Monday afternoon.
Party workers had gathered to protest against electricity-related issues and blocked traffic near the collectorate for nearly an hour, disrupting movement and affecting visitors to government offices.
Addressing supporters during the protest, Lodhi challenged the administration to register a case against him.
“File the case if you want. We are not afraid,” he said.
In his complaint, Gupta alleged that the MP’s remarks against the Prime Minister had hurt public sentiments and disturbed the atmosphere.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath later described the comments as “unpardonable”.
