MUMBAI: A 22-year-old man from Jaipur has been arrested in Jaipur on Friday for molesting a woman in a plush Pali Hill pub in Bandra last weekend, according to Bandra Police. A complaint was registered on Wednesday by the sister of the survivor, who had subsequently put out her version of events on social media.

The accused is identified as Shrey Shreyans Jain, a resident of Jaipur. The police have brought him to Mumbai. “Some of our officers from Santacruz police were already in Rajasthan when we identified the accused. We asked them to bring him to the city as soon as they could. He was brought to Mumbai on Friday morning,” said DCP Anil Paraskar.

The incident reportedly took place on March 25, when the 30-year-old survivor was in the city to attend the engagement of a friend. While she was at this pub with her sister and friends, the woman said, she was groped and touched inappropriately by a man, who took advantage of the Saturday night crowd on the dance floor.

In her statement to the police, the survivor’s sister said that she immediately turned around to confront the man and even slapped him. “The management of the venue thought we were creating a ruckus and asked us to leave. We sought the CCTV footage of the incident the next day as we intended to take legal action. While providing the footage to us, the pub management also apologised for the misunderstanding the day before,” she told the police.

After the survivor received the footage from the pub, she shared it on social media asking for help to recognise and track down the accused. Based on her post, the Bandra police reached out to her. Since she had returned to Bengaluru where she works, her sister lodged a formal complaint on her behalf.

After registration of the FIR, the police nabbed the accused from his hometown and brought him to the city.
