Hyderabad woman sets up raid at fiance’s house over nixed wedding, booked

The two had met on a social media platform in 2021, when the accused was a medical student, and they got engaged in 2024 after she threatened to die by suicide

The Sakinaka police on Sunday booked a 26-year-old woman for allegedly setting up a police raid at her fiance’s house by supplying false information about consumption of drugs, after he tried to call off their marriage.

According to the police, the accused, Dakshayini Yakumar, hails from Hyderabad while her fiance Kavir Ramedharlal, 27, is from Bikaner and lives in Sakinaka. The two had met on a social media platform in 2021, when Yakumar was a medical student, and they got engaged in 2024 after she threatened to die by suicide.

“The woman’s unreasonable behaviour escalated after the engagement. Although they lived separately, she often threatened suicide over trivial matters,” a police officer familiar with the case said, citing Ramdherlal’s complaint. “In June 2026, when she learnt that her fiance’s male friend was visiting him, she demanded that he throw the friend out, failing which she would commit suicide.”

Ramedharlal subsequently tried to call off their marriage, but in vain, he told the police. On August 13, while a female friend was visiting him at home, an unknown person turned up at the door, claiming Yakumar had sent him to check who was in the house. Ramedharlal then called Yakumar, who demanded he throw out his friend and threatened to publicly humiliate him by falsely reporting to the police that they were consuming marijuana.

While Ramdherlal’s friend left his home, two policemen visited his house after a short while and conducted a search, saying his fiancee had informed them about marijuana being stocked. But they found nothing.

Shaken, Ramdherlal went to Bikaner for two days and approached the Sakinaka police on August 16, after he returned to the city. Based on his complaint, Yakumar was booked on Sunday under sections 217 (b), 329 (4), 49 and 61 (2) the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, pertaining to using legal power to annoy someone, trespass, conspiracy and criminal conspiracy.
