Jewar airport: Compensation drive in 14 villages from Friday

GREATER NOIDA: The Gautam Budh Nagar administration will launch a village-level compensation drive starting Friday by organising special camps for the farmers affected by land acquisition for expansion of the Noida International Airport at Jewar, officials said on Thursday.

The move aims to expedite the compensation process, reducing the affected farmers’ visits to government offices, they added.

According to district officials, farmers are required to submit compensation-related forms and complete documentation at these camps, and the revenue teams will process claims and prepare case files on the spot. “Revenue inspectors and lekhpals have been deployed in each village to manage the process. The idea is to take the system to the villages so that farmers can complete formalities closer to home and without delays,” district magistrate (DM) Medha Roopam said in a statement.

These camps will be held at designated public locations, including primary schools and panchayat buildings, across villages such as Thora, Bankapur, Neemka Shahjahanpur, Ahmedpur Chaurouli, Khwajpur, Ramner, Kishorpur, Banwaribas, Parohi, Rohi, Mukimpur Shivara, Jewar Bangar, Sabota Mustafabad, and Dayanatpur.

The administration has urged affected farmers to attend the camps in their respective villages from Friday (April 3) onwards and complete the required formalities to avoid delays in receiving compensation.

The compensation process, officials said, will be carried out in a “transparent and time-bound manner”.

“The tehsildar of Jewar has been appointed as the nodal officer to oversee daily camp operations, with instructions to physically monitor the process and ensure that completed files are forwarded without delay,” the DM said, adding that once documentation is verified and formalities are completed, compensation disbursal will be processed accordingly through the land acquisition office.

The compensation exercise comes amid rapid progress on the Noida International Airport, inaugurated on March 28 as a key greenfield project to ease congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and boosting regional connectivity.

Spread over 11,700 acres, the airport is being developed as a major aviation and logistics hub, with an 87-acre cargo facility and dedicated maintenance infrastructure.

Officials have said the airport project is expected to significantly enhance passenger capacity and strengthen supply chains across north India, while also driving industrial and economic growth in the region.
