Police claimed they are yet to ascertain the identity of the Maoist cadre and combing operation in the nearby jungles are still underway

A woman Maoist was killed after a gunfire exchange with security personnel in Bastar’s Bijapur district on Tuesday morning, police said.

Police claimed they are yet to ascertain the identity of the Maoist cadre and combing operation in the nearby jungles are still underway.

Inspector general of police, Bastar range, Sunderaj P said they acted on a tip off at around 6:30am in the forest between Korcholi and Todka villages.

“We had information that a few Maoist cadres including one Vella, a commander of Maoists’ PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerilla Army) company number 2, and Dinesh, a member of Gangalur Area Committee, are camping near Korcholi forest. Following the information, an operation was launched and when the team was reaching the spot, the encounter started,” said the IG.

The officer further said that after the exchange of fire stopped, the body of a woman Maoist in uniform along with a 12-bore rifle was recovered from the spot.

“We are yet to identify the dead Maoist and the body will be brought to district headquarters,” said the IG.
