At the Miri Piri conference on the occasion of Maghi Mela in Muktsar on Tuesday, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) gave a call for Punjab bandh on January 25 against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizen Amendment Act (CAA).

Addressing a gathering, SAD(A) president Simranjit Singh Mann said, “The ruling BJP is trying to force Hinduism on people through NRC and CAA. The minorities will not accept them. We appeal the public to join hands against these laws by observing a shutdown on January 25.”

While the SAD(A) lauded the efforts of PM Narendra Modi and Pakistan PM Imran Khan for opening Kartarpur corridor, they condemned the alleged harassment of devotees at the hands of immigration officials.

He also vouched for polling through ballot paper for fair elections and implementation of Swaminathan Commission report to provide succour to farmers.
