Cricket PlayersIndia to play 3 ODIs against Australia before World Cup 2023, host England for 5 Tests in action-packed home season
India’s coming home season will comprise 8 white-ball matches against Australia and a 5-Test series against England.
The BCCI tours, fixtures and technical committee announced the schedule for a long home season on Tuesday. It has white-ball matches against Australia either side of the home ODI World Cup in October-November and then a five-Test series against England that ends on March 24.
Mohali, Indore and Rajkot will host Australia for three ODIs on September 23, 24 and 27. These matches will mark the start of BCCI's new four-year media rights cycle; the hunt for the new broadcast partners will begin soon. These matches will also be the final ODIs India and Australia play ahead of their opening World Cup fixture in Chennai on October 8.

After the World Cup, India will again take on Australia in five T20Is, to be played between November 23 and December 3. The venues will be Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Nagpur and Hyderabad.
To serve as further preparations for next year’s T20 World Cup, three ODIs that were to be played against Afghanistan this year will be converted into T20Is. On January 11, 14 and 17, India will take on Afghanistan in Mohali, Indore and Bengaluru.

Most of these venues for these white-ball fixtures are those who missed out on hosting World Cup matches. BCCI said in its media release that venues were allotted as per its "rotation policy".
5 Tests vs England
India will then face England, currently playing a belligerent brand of Test cricket, in the Test series between January 25 and March 24 at Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharmsala. A week's gap separates the second and third Tests as well as the fourth and final Tests.

The choice of Test venues is curious. India’s best chance to negate England’s attacking batters as well as their seam and swing bowlers would be on spin-friendly pitches.
Traditionally, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot and Ranchi have been slow batting-friendly tracks while Dharmsala is one of the few venues in the country that offers help to pacers. With crucial World Test Championship points on the line, the pitches for the series may well be different.
