'Stokes will not say it on the interview': Hussain drops epic remark after England seal historic Test series in Pakistan
Former England skipper Nasser Hussain opined that the Ben Stokes-led side had to dig deep to register a memorable win over Pakistan at Multan.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain credited the Babar Azam-led Pakistan side for showcasing their fighting spirit in the first two Test matches of the action-packed bilateral series. Ben Stokes-led England side upstaged hosts Pakistan in the Multan Test to take an unassailable 2-0 lead on Monday. Pacer Mark Wood bagged four wickets to seal England's historic win over the Babar-led side at the Multan Cricket Ground.
Before England secured its first series win in Pakistan since 2000-01, the visitors remained the pump in the recently concluded encounter at Multan. Chasing a challenging total of 355 on Day 4, Babar and Co. were bowled out for 328 before lunch. Pacer Wood scalped the crucial wickets of Mohammad Nawaz (45) and Saud Shakeel (94) to spark England's comeback in the series decider.
Wood finished with 4-65 as Stokes-led England registered a famous 26-run win over Babar-led Pakistan to seal the Test series at Multan. Speaking to Sky Sports after England's historic win, former cricketer Hussain opined that the visitors had to dig deep to register a memorable win over Pakistan.
"Two very docile pitches, two very different pitches and this one spun. They've had to work so, so hard to pull off those victories. You spare a thought for Pakistan, they were 10 minutes away from getting a draw in the last game and they were 20-odd runs away here, and that shows the effort England had to put in," Hussain said.
England's thrilling win over at Multan is the eighth win in the nine Tests for the Three Lions since Brendon McCullum was appointed as the head coach and Ben Stokes became the captain in May. England have also surpassed Pakistan in the latest ICC World Test Championship standings. The visitors will meet Pakistan in the third and final Test match of the series on Saturday. The upcoming 3rd Test will be contested at the Karachi National Stadium.
"They didn't just walk over Pakistan, they had to put in a real effort. They will learn from this. McCullum is no fool, he will sit there and he will think about that 73-5. Stokes will not say it on the interview, because he wants clear messaging like Morgan's men and that white-ball revolution. But McCullum will say to his team, 'Well done, you got over the line but just think about that 73-5.' He will hope that next time they think about that, and they can't just keep going this close, because a better side may just knock them and say, 'Don't take the mick out of the game," Hussain added.
