The 34-year-old, whose explosive batting is built on his remarkable hand-eye coordination and a simple see-it-hit-it philosophy, is wearing prescription spectacles at the national camp on at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

It won't be a surprise if he walks out to bat in the first Test against Australia — starting in Chennai on February 22 — with the glasses on. The power is reported to be a minor -.25.

On Sunday, Sehwag wore glasses while batting during a training session and also at the nets. He took on slow bowlers, suggesting the opener, who will be under pressure to perform, is taking time getting used to wearing them.

The spectacles were prescribed during one-day series against Pakistan, but the opener didn’t wear them to the field, said sources. In Bangalore, however, spectacles sat on top of the cap in the place of shades when he walked away from the ground.

It’s not clear whether eyesight has affected his batting. Many cricketing legends did face the problem in the latter part of their careers, including West Indian great Viv Richards.

Remember bespectacled Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble when they started off? The two ditched the nerdy look for contact lenses. Wonder if Viru would go the same way?
