00:20 hrs IST: That’s it. Thank you for joining us!

Kuldeep Yadav (Man of the Match): “For me it’s a big day. I started pretty well, luckily I got some early wickets. For me it doesn’t matter where I’m playing. There was a little bit of turn. After the first over I felt in the game. If you are using your variations it’s more difficult for the batsmen. I’m hoping for the Test squad, let’s see.”

Virat Kohli: “As clinical as it can be. We knew it was a really good wicket but wrist spin in the middle overs would be tricky. When they have 10 overs then know they have the skills to have an impact. Kuldeep was outstanding, I don’t think I’ve seen a better ODI spell in a while. We want him confident because we know he can be a matchwinner - 50 over cricket, if you don’t get wickets it’s very difficult.”

Eoin Morgan: “Certainly not our best day we’ve had here, full credit to India they completely outplayed us. Playing against spin is a challenge we will hopefully continue to improve on. We might need to sit in or a better way to play him...think Lord’s will be different. He [Kuldeep] extracted more turn than any other spinner. Our playing against spin will have to improve. To be honest, between now and the World Cup we need to expose our areas of weakness and this is one of them.”

23:55 hrs IST: Single and that’s it. India thrash England by eight wickets to go 1-0 up.

23:44 hrs IST: India need 22 off 74. Rohit is unbeaten on 125 while Rahul is on five.

23:31 hrs IST: India need 32 off 90. KL Rahul has come out to bat at no 4 after Kohli’s departure for 75. The Karnataka batsman will look to stay unbeaten till the end.

23:24 hrs IST: Meanwhile, Hima Das scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships as she clinched to top spot in the women’s 400m final race on the third day of competitions in Tampere.

The 18-year-old Das, a pre-tournament favourite favourite, clocked 51.46s to win the gold.

23:17 hrs IST: SIX! That’s massive. What a way to bring up his hundred. This is great stuff from Rohit! Continues to get better with every innings. One of the best in the business currently!

23:09 hrs IST: India are 205/1 after 29 overs, need 65 off 126. Brilliant display from both players. With such kind of a performance, they deserve a thrashing win. Rohit is unbeaten on 93 while Virat is on 70.

22:57 hrs IST: Meanwhile, Serena Williams said “it’s crazy” that she has managed to reach a 10th Wimbledon final, 10 months after life-saving surgery which followed her pregnancy.

The 36-year-old American eased past Germany’s Julia Goerges 6-2, 6-4 and will face another German, Angelique Kerber in Saturday’s final, her 30th Grand Slam championship match.

22:50 hrs IST: FOUR! Another fifty for Virat Kohli. What a time he has had since becoming the skipper of the Indian cricket team. Surely, there are good days ahead if he continues to play like this.

22:42 hrs IST: FOUR! And that’s fifty for Rohit Sharma. What a performance it has been from him! Should look to stay till the end. India are 140/1 after 22 overs.

22:35 hrs IST: Meanwhile, Dimuth Karunaratne ploughed a lone furrow for Sri Lanka as South Africa took charge on the opening day of the first Test in Galle.

The opener carried his bat on Thursday as the hosts struggled to find any rhythm after opting to make their opponents bowl, Karunaratne finishing 158 not out as Sri Lanka were dismissed for 287.

22:27 hrs IST: Time for drinks. India have been sublime. 122 runs in 18 overs. Should be easy from here with Rahul, Raina and Dhoni yet to come. For England, the equation is simple. They need wickets.

22:19 hrs IST: Meanwhile, former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting believes India captain Virat Kohli is currently the best batsman in the world only because Steve Smith is serving a year-long ban for his role in ball tampering at a Cape Town Test.

Asked who is the number one batsman in the world, Ponting said: “Right now, he (Kohli) is because Steve Smith is not there.

22:13 hrs IST: Despite Dhawan’s wicket, India are going really well. England in desperate need of wickets or else they will be trailing very soon in the series.

22:03 hrs IST: Rohit has picked up from where Shikhar left off. He has been in superb form and continuing from the third T20I in Bristol. IND 83/1

21:55 hrs IST: Despite the loss of Dhawan there is no sign of Indian Juggernaut halting. Boundaries are coming at regular intervals and England it looks like have no answer.

21:49 hrs IST: Out!!!! First wicket England, Shikhar Dhawan falls to Moeen Ali for 40. England are 59/1

21:45 hrs IST: First maximum of the over comes courtesy Rohit Sharma as he lofts Mark Wood over mid off. The signs are ominous for England and India could not have asked for a better start.

21:40 hrs IST: Moeen Ali is into the attack and he isn’t spared either, eight runs off his over as Rohit gets in on the act with a boundary. IND 45/0 after 6

21:36 hrs IST: Shikhar Dhawan is just getting better and better and better. he hits two more boundaries in Mark Wood’s third over and India are now cruising. IND 37/0 after 5

21:30 hrs IST: Shikhar Dhawan looks in sublime touch. he has struck four boundaries, all off Willey and he represents biggest danger to England in this match.

21:24 hrs IST: Big over for India, Shikhar Dhawan strokes three boundaries in the over to get India off to a flying start.

21:18 hrs IST: End of the first Over and India are 3/0 in their chase of 269. Both openers have opened their accounts.

21:16 hrs IST: Back for the second innings! India need 269 to win the match.

20:40 hrs IST: Englnd are all out. Liam Plunkett is the last man out. England fail to bat out their 50 overs and finish on 268. India need 269 to win and take 1-0 lead in the series.

20:32 hrs IST: Out!!!! First wicket for an Indian pacer, Umesh gets dangerous looking Moeen for 24 and England are 245/8.

20:27 hrs IST: Good over for England as both Moeen and Rashid get a boundary each in Kaul’s over. 11 off the over and looks like England could get to 250.

20:22 hrs IST: Just four overs left and if history is anything to go by England are way short of what should be the par score. Can they get to 250?

20:20 hrs IST: Out!!!! Kuldeep gets another one, he has got six. David Willey goes this time caught by Rahul for 1. Dream spell for Yadav.

20:14 hrs IST: Out!!!! Kuldeep gets five, Ben stokes his latest victim goes for a painstakingly slow 50. India are are well on top at Nottingham. ENG 214/6

20:11 hrs IST: Finally!!! Ben Stokes has brought up his fifty. England on the other hand are in a rut with both batsmen with strike rates below 50 after 44 overs. Fair to say the pitch has fooled everyone.

20:07 hrs IST: Ben Stokes has played a 101 balls an he is on 49, it has been a struggle for him. Not that India are complaining.

20:03 hrs IST: Apologies! Kuldeep still has one over left, he could still get 5-wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal meanwhile has bowled out. his 10 overs cost 51 and he took one wicket.

19:55 hrs IST: 200 is up for England and Moeen Ali has walked in to replace Buttler, another dangerous player. Last over for Kuldeep can he get a five-for.

19:50 hrs IST: Out!!!! Kuldeep gets Buttler and that’s a massive wicket at just the right time for India. Buttler was looking dangerous heading into the last few overs. ENG 198/5

19:46 hrs IST: Indian pacers and their changes of pace have done wonders for India. Just 23 runs have come off the last five overs.

19:41 hrs IST: Thirteen overs left and England are 191/4. five of the 13 overs can be bowled by spinners who have been the wreckers-in-chief.

19:36 hrs IST: Indian pacers are hardly posing a threat to England batsmen and with 14 overs left the onslaught can’t be that far away. how England bat against the spinners and the 5 overs they have will define what total they put on.

19:28 hrs IST: Partnership between Buttler and Stokes looking really dangerous now. A wicket is the need of the hour as far as India are concerned. Kohli may have to turn to his spinners soon.

19:21 hrs IST: Siddarth Kaul is back in the attack now and six runs come off his over. India don’t have a death bowler in their ranks with Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah both out so it’s imperative that they strike and get new batsmen in before the last few overs begin.

19:15 hrs IST: Just by looking you can make out how comfortable England are against Pace compared to spin. Umesh is into the attack and is easily milked for ones and twos in the over.

19:10 hrs IST: Buttler and Stokes being very careful against Indian spinners who have just five overs left between them. With the rest of the bowling not that flash England will still be targeting close to 300 here.

19:04 hrs IST: 50 run partnership is up between Buttler and Stokes and the two are growing in confidence. India need a wicket here.

18:59 hrs IST: India have had a golden period since the ned of the first power play but Buttler and Stokes are two dangerous players and if they are not gotten out early then they could still help England pose a massive score.

18:54 hrs IST: Kuldeep has been treated with utmost respect by England, they need to preserve wickets to be able to mount an onslaught later. ENG 142/4 (27)

18:52 hrs IST: half way stage and England have reached 134/4, they need to do significantly better in the second half to pose a total which will challenge India.

18:42 hrs IST: Ben Stokes is coming back after an injury while Jos Buttler has been in stupendous form across formats since the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. Even with four down, England stand a good chance to get a big one if these both can hang in for a while. For India, Hardik Pandya is bowling well. He is even getting some movement.

18:34 hrs IST: From 71/0 to 110/4. Remember, this was the same track where England scored a record 481 against Australia a month back. 250 seems difficult here.

18:28 hrs IST: OUT! Morgan departs, the hosts in all sorts of trouble. First wicket for Chahal. Once again, spinners doing the job for the visitors. Jos Buttler comes to the crease.

18:23 hrs IST: Consecutive boundaries for Morgan, looks in top form. He should look to stay till the end. England are 104/3 after 19 overs.

18:16 hrs IST: Great over from Raina, only three runs off it. England 86/3 after 16 overs.

18:10 hrs IST: Another good over by Kuldeep, just one of the over, England need to knuckle down or they will be out of the contest soon.

18:07 hrs IST: Virat Kohli brings in Suresh Raina to get few overs of part timers out of the way and the off spinner rewards his captain by bowling the first maiden of the match. ENG 82/3 (14)

18:05 hrs IST: OUT! Kuldeep Yadav is on a roll, Jonny Bairstow is gone. Second wicket for the left arm spinner in the over and England are in trouble at 82/3

17:59 hrs IST: OUT! Kuldeep Yadav strike again, Joe Root goes now LBW for 3 (6). England need to be careful against Indian spinners or they could further slide.

17:56 hrs IST: Chahal follows up good over by Kuldeep, concedes just four from the over. Spinners have really pulled the run-rate back for England

17:51 hrs IST: OUT! Kuldeep Yadav has struck immediately. Jason Roy goes for 38 (35). Time for India to tighten the screws. ENG 73/1.

17:46 hrs IST: End of the powerplay and England are well placed at 71/0. Both Bairstow and Roy are getting runs at will and the role of spinners play will decide the destiny of this match. Kuldeep is now into the attack. ENG 71/0.

17:41 hrs IST: Yuzvendra Chahal is into the attack but he is also taken for seven off his over, including a four off his last ball. Spinners are India’s X-factor and they need to reel England In.

17:38 hrs IST: First maximum of the match came in that over as Jonny Bairstow heaved Kaul over deep midwicket boundary. As Predicted this is going to be a high scoring affair unless something drastic happens. 56/0 (8)

17:33 hrs IST: Another good over for England, 10 runs come off it. Jason Roy looking really dangerous and he has been in the runs recently. INdia need to strike quickly or it could get out of hand.

17:28 hrs IST: 11 Runs of Siddarth Kaul’s third over, Both Roy and Bairstow smack him for a boundary in the over. England looking to up the ante here. 37/0 after 6

17:24 hrs IST: A good over is somewhat spoiled by Umesh as he concedes a four of the last ball of the over. He could have had a caught and bowled in the over as well. ENG 26/0

17:19 hrs IST: Very good over by the debutant Siddarth Kaul, he concedes just a single of the over. England are now 21/0 after four overs.

17:14 hrs IST: Good over for England, Jonny Bairstow looks in fine form, he hammers two fours of Umesh Yadav in the third over. England are motoring at 20/0 after 3.

17:10 hrs IST: Siddarth Kaul concedes five runs from his first over in One day cricket. England steady after two overs. ENG 11/0 (2)

17:03 hrs IST: Six runs off the first over, four of which came via an edge to third-man boundary. Nice tart by Umesh after the first ball. ENG 6/0 (1)

16:59 hrs IST: Both teams are out on field. The match is about to begin. Umesh Yadav to bowl the first over.

16:39 hrs IST: Here is how the two teams will line up in the first match at Nottingham.

England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(c), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(w), Moeen Ali, David Willey, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Virat Kohli(c), Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w), Hardik Pandya, Siddarth Kaul, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav

16:37 hrs IST: Siddarth Kaul will make his ODI debut in the first match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is out.

16:34 hrs IST: Virat Kohli has won the toss and India will bowl first.

16:11 hrs IST: Hello and welcome to the live blog of 1st ODI between India and England. The toss will happen in just under 20 minutes.

India need to win the series 3-0 to overtake England as the number one ODI side in ICC rankings. Former India captain MS Dhoni needs just 33 runs to become only the second wicketkeeper batsman to score 10,000 runs or more in One day internationals.

England batsman Alex Hales will miss the first one-day international against India on Thursday because of a side injury sustained when batting in net practice, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced.

Middlesex batsman David Malan has been called up as cover, with Hales set to be monitored by England on a game-by-game basis.

The three-match ODI series starts at Trent Bridge -- the home ground for Nottinghamshire opener Hales -- continues at Lord’s on Saturday and concludes at Headingley on Tuesday.

Hales averaged 48 as England lost their Twenty20 series against India 2-1. England’s most recent ODI at Trent Bridge saw Hales make 147 as England complied a men’s record total of 481 for six in a 242-run win, also a record, against Australia on June 19.
