19:47 hrs IST: Krunal Pandya holds his nerve and Mumbai Indians continue their survival story as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 13 runs. Robin Uthappa’s 54 in vain and despite Dinesh Karthiks big hits, the team could not cross the line.

19:40 hrs IST: Sunil Narine drills a four straight down the ground off Krunal Pandya but next ball, he toe-ends a quicker ball to extra cover and he departs. It is all upto DK now. Can he repeat his Nidahas Trophy exploits?

19:38 hrs IST: Karthik mauls a six over deep mid wicket and Bumrah misses the yorker to be flayed over long off for a boundary. On the last ball, DK crunches a full toss to deep mid wicket but JP Duminy drops the catch. The catching in IPL 2018 has been very poor to say the least. 23 runs needed off the last over. Possible?

19: 33 hrs IST: Fantastic over from Hardik Pandya. Only six runs in the over and he ends with figures of 4-0-19-2. Potentially match-winning this one. Bumrah will bowl the 19th over. All eyes on DK and Narine.

19:26 hrs IST: Brilliant catch from Krunal Pandya. Short ball from Jasprit Bumrah and Russell looks to pull it over deep mid wicket, he gets a big top edge and Krunal, running back from backward square leg, takes a splendid catch under pressure. However, Dinesh Karthik keeps KKR in the hunt with two boundaries, one a cut over backward point and a four to fine leg.

19:20 hrs IST: Short ball from Markande and Russell blasts it wide of long on for a crucial boundary. The last four overs are crucial for KKR, with Bumrah bowling two overs. Will KKR chase it down or will MI hold their nerve?

19:15 hrs IST: Four runs in the over from Mitchell McClenaghan and the asking rate has mounted. Mumbai Indians have good bowlers at the death. It will not be easy for Kolkata Knight Riders.

19:10 hrs IST: Hardik Pandya has figures of 3-0-13-2 and is now the Purple cap holder for most wickets. The asking rate for KKR is over 10 but they still have Russell and DK, two proven finishers.

19:06 hrs IST: Mumbai Indians are fighting back in style. Short ball from Hardik Pandya and Nitish Rana miscues the pull shot to deep mid wicket where Jasprit Bumrah takes the catch. Kolkata Knight Riders are stuttering slightly but they still have some firepower in the batting.

19:01 hrs IST: Uthappa brings up his 23rd fifty in style with some brilliant strokes. He blasts four consecutive fours off Ben Cutting as Kolkata Knight Riders continue to plunder Mumbai Indians. Desperation time for Rohit Sharma’s side. Mayank Markande responds as Uthappa lofts a flighted ball to Cutting at long off to give his side some hope.

18:53 hrs IST: Good comeback from Bumrah after being hit for nine runs in the first over. He varies his length and his line brilliantly to give away just four runs in the 11th over. KKR need 87 off 54, bearable but they will not want the required rate to go out of hand.

18:48 hrs IST: Uthappa continues to go on his merry ways as he shovels a full ball from Ben Cutting to the fine leg fence. For the first time in IPL 2018, Uthappa is looking good to convert a start into a big score.

18:45 hrs IST: Mumbai Indians leak runs in the middle overs as Uthappa dispatches a full toss to deep extra cover. The partnership has put KKR on course to overhaul the total and it needs a spirited effort from Mumbai Indians to stem the flow of runs. After nine overs, KKR are 84/2, needing 98 off 66.

18:40 hrs IST: Mayank Markande is having a horror show. After dropping Uthappa, he is made to pay in his first over. Rana gets going with a swept boundary to long leg and Uthappa tears into him with two sixes, one over deep mid wicket and one a nonchalant loft over long off. 17 runs in Markande’s first over.

18:34 hrs IST: Superb batting from Rana and Uthappa. The right-hander gets into the act by lofting a flighted ball inside out over deep extra cover while Rana cracks a short ball past backward point for a boundary to deep backward point. 13 runs in Krunal Pandya’s over.

18:30 hrs IST: Mayank Markande manages to drop Robin Uthappa on 4 and Hardik Pandya is absolutely fuming. Mumbai Indians need to make the catches stick if they are to win this crucial match. At the end of the powerplay, KKR are 47/2.

18:25 hrs IST: Nitish Rana hammers a six off McClenaghan to third man. Kolkata Knight Riders are feeling the pinch of not opening with Sunil Narine, who has been apparently laid low by the heat.

18:16 hrs IST: Another wicket falls and Kolkata Knight Riders are stumbling. Hardik Pandya bowls a full slower ball on off stump, Shubhman Gill miscues the lofted shot and Krunal takes the catch at mid off. Poor shot in the circumstances.

18:11 hrs IST: Shubhman Gill gets a boundary straight down the ground for a boundary but Lynn continues to power on, short-arm pulls it over short fine leg and then thumps the pull to the deep mid wicket fence. However, in the quest for aggression, Lynn pulls a short ball straight to short fine leg to depart for 17.

18:09 hrs IST: After a tight over from Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah bowls the second over but concedes runs. Chris Lynn edges a full ball to the third man fence, drives a full ball past extra cover and then Ishan Kishan fails to collect the ball cleanly as he concedes four byes.

17:45 hrs IST: Good last over for Mumbai Indians as Hardik Pandya gets some crucial boundaries to help Mumbai Indians reach 181/4, a good total and it will be a tall task for Kolkata Knight Riders.

17:36 hrs IST: Good over from Mitchell Johnson as he concedes just seven runs in the 18th over. Kolkata Knight Riders will be happy to restrict Mumbai Indians to under 180 while Hardik Pandya needs to occupy the strike a lot more. Duminy hits a six to relieve the pressure.

17:28 hrs IST: Krunal Pandya is looking in great touch by pummelling a six over wide long on off Sunil Narine but he looks to repeat the stroke and he holes out to Shubhman Gill in the same position. Hardik Pandya holds the key now as Mumbai Indians look to reach a big score.

17:24 hrs IST: Prasidh Krishna bowls some good deliveries and beats Krunal Pandya with a 99 kmph slower ball, but he spoils the over by bowling a short and wide ball which Hardik Pandya neatly crunches to the deep backward point fence. The last ball is paddled over short fine leg and Mumbai Indians are 143/3 after 16 overs. Looking good for 190.

17:16 hrs IST: Just as one was saying of the need for Suryakumar to hang in, he falls. Short of a length ball that zips through outside off, Suryakumar looks to run it down to third man but gets a faint edge to depart for 59. Hardik and Krunal Pandya are the key now for Mumbai Indians.

17:12 hrs IST: Just four runs in the 14th over bowled by Mitchell Johnson. Kolkata Knight Riders need a lot of good overs if they are to prevent Mumbai Indians from reaching a big score. Suryakumar has been troubled by the heat and he is struggling to continue.

17:05 hrs IST: Piyush Chawla continues to leak runs and he is not helped by some poor fielding. Pandya miscues a lofted shot and Narine drops it. On the fifth ball, Pandya once again connects with the loft, this time with one hand as he gets a six over long off.

16:59 hrs IST: Contrasting over for Narine. Suryakumar gets his fifty but the off-spinner sends the dangerous Rohit Sharma packing. MI are 109/2 after 12 overs.

16:54 hrs IST: Chawla’s second over goes for 8 runs. MI are 103/1 after 11 overs.

16:48 hrs IST: WICKET! KKR get the breakthrough as Russell removes Lewis. MI are 95/1 after 10 overs.

16:43 hrs IST: Kuldeep Yadav comes back with a better over but still concedes seven runs. MI 89/0 after 9 overs.

16:39 hrs IST: Rana’s second over of the game goes for an amazing 16 runs! This is bonkers batting from Suryakumar and Lewis! MI 82/0 after 8 overs.

16:34 hrs IST: A strategic timeout and the introduction of Kuldeep Yadav can’t stem the flow of runs as MI take 10 runs off his first over. Things are looking ominous for KKR at this point. MI 66/0 after 7 overs.

16:25 hrs IST: Excellent batting from Lewis. He pulls a short ball from Prasidh Krishna over deep backward square leg for a six and then mauls Piyush Chawla over deep square leg. The ball sails out of the ground and then follows it up with two boundaries. Mumbai Indians have reached 56/0 after six overs and looking good for a big score.

16:18 hrs IST: After four good balls, Sunil Narine concedes two boundaries as Evin Lewis capitalises. The left-hander launches a flighted ball over mid off and then creams the drive past extra cover as Mumbai Indians start off on a great note.

16:13 hrs IST: Brilliant batting from Suryakumar. Mitchell Johnson bowls the bouncer and the batsman top-edges the pull shot and it eludes the man at deep mid wicket. The batsman follows it up with a carved drive past cover and a slashed cut past backward point as Johnson concedes 15 runs in his first over. After three overs, Mumbai Indians are 23/0.

16:08 hrs IST: Brilliant first over from Nitish Rana as he concedes just one run. Suryakumar Yadav gets going with a boundary off debutant Prasidh Krishna who shows some nerves and bowls too short. After the end of two overs, Mumbai Indians are 8/0.

15:37 hrs IST: Kolkata Knight Riders have won the toss and will bowl against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium. Rohit Sharma’s side are unchanged but KKR have two changes, with Nitish Rana replacing Rinku Singh. However, Shivam Mavi is out injured and Prasidh Krishna, who replaced Kamlesh Nagarkoti is into the side. Here are the playing XIs of both sides.

Playing XIs

Mumbai Indians: Suryakumar Yadav, Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan(w), Rohit Sharma(c), Jean-Paul Duminy, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Ben Cutting, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mayank Markande, Jasprit Bumrah

Kolkata Knight Riders: Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik(w/c), Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Mitchell Johnson, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav

15:15 hrs IST: A warm welcome to the first match of the Sunday double-header between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. The equation is simple for both sides. A loss for Rohit Sharma’s side will dent their play-off chances severely while a win for Kolkata Knight Riders will see them close in on a spot in the knock-outs.

Mumbai Indians’ resurgence might have actually taken a bit too long this season given that the most glorious side in IPL history now stands at a juncture where they need to win every game.

And against Kolkata Knight Riders, they face not just a tricky test, but a daunting one.

For a start, Mumbai Indians’s bowling has been nothing short of wayward this season. Barring Jasprit Bumrah (6.75), three of their top four bowlers — Hardik Pandya, Mayank Markande and Mitch McClenaghan — have all been hammered at economy rates of 9.12, 7.93 and 8.52, respectively.

Rohit Sharma will be well aware of what awaits him on Sunday. It isn’t quite the traditional batting pair that his boys will have to bowl to. There’s a stark contrast in the manner in which Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine approach the game. Even if they depart cheaply, KKR’s batting depth stems from the fact that their highest run-getter is their skipper Dinesh Karthik who comes in the middle-order.
