'It's going to take months before...': Maxwell's major update on leg injury before IPL 2023 a worrying sign for RCB
Before the start of the season, he provided a major update on his injury which could be a worrying factor for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In November of 2022, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell had suffered a freak accident that broke his leg at a birthday party in Melbourne. He was hence ruled out of international fixtures for months after undergoing surgery for a fracture of the left fibula. Maxwell is now slated for a return to cricket and had arrived in Bengaluru, to gear up for the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). But before the start of the season, he provided a major update on his injury which could be a worrying factor for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The grievous injury incurred after he and his friend became entangled when running across the backyard tennis court. Maxwell required surgery and a long period of rehabilitation before returning to Australia's ODI side for the recently-concluded series against India.
Speaking on his injury, Maxwell, in a video posted by RCB on social media ahead of the start of the 16th season of the IPL, said that he would still require months to be 100 per cent fit, but remains hopeful that the leg is fit enough for him to get through the tournament.
"The leg's okay. It's going to be a number of months before I'm 100 per cent. Hopefully it's (leg) good enough to get through the tournament and still do the job," he said.
IPL is set to return to its original home-and-away format after a gap of two years owing to Covid restrictions and Maxwell is excited to perform at RCB's home ground, Chinnaswamy Stadium.
"Finally getting back after a couple of years (of playing inside bio-bubbles). It's pretty exciting and I'm pretty pumped to play in front of our home fans," added Maxwell.
The Aussie had an impressive 2022 season with RCB, having scored 301 runs in 13 matches while also picking six wickets. The franchise had a memorable season as well, having finished third to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight season.
