23:26 hrs IST: That is all we have from here. Join us for the all important final between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede on Sunday. The IPL journey is almost over.
23:20 hrs IST: Rashid Khan, Man of the Match:I just tried my best to give 100% in bowling, batting and fielding. Full focus was to believe in my skills. Much happy with the batting today which was needed at the end. Started my career as a batsman, and I have the belief. Just try my best to look into the length and play according to the length.
23:15 hrs IST: Kane Williamson, SRH skipper: Credit to the way the boys finished off the first innings. He (Rashid) was brilliant but he’s got another game, so we’re going to keep him wrapped up. Important we move on and focus on the final. As a team we fight to the very last ball and we showed that again today. Real team effort. He was certainly the MoM and he was brilliant, but a number of guys chipped in
23:05 hrs IST: Dinesh Karthik: It’s hard to digest. We played a good tournament. But to finish on the losing side doesn’t feel good. We had the game during the chase, but a couple of bad shots and one run-out changed the course of the game.
22:58 hrs IST: Game, set and match for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 13 runs to enter the final where they will take on Chennai Super Kings for the fourth time in this edition. Rashid Khan has been the one-man army for SRH today, taking two catches, a run-out, 3/19 and the unbeaten cameo of 34 off 10 balls that helped Kane Williamson’s side notch up a great score.
22:51 hrs IST: That is probably the game. Shubman Gill holes out to deep mid wicket where Rashid Khan (who else) takes the catch and pumps his fist. What a game the Afghan sensation has had.
22:49 hrs IST: Shivam Mavi slices a full ball from Carlos Brathwaite to the third man fence but the bowler takes his revenge as the batsman holes out to wide long on. KKR need 15 off 4. All hopes pinned on Shubman Gill.
22:46 hrs IST: Brilliant end to the over from Shubman Gill. He gets underneath a yorker length ball and mauls it over long off for a much-needed six. Kolkata Knight Riders need 19 off 6 balls.
22:41 hrs IST: Perfect bowling from Siddarth Kaul. Full ball on middle and off stump, Piyush Chawla makes room and looks to drill it past cover but gets an outside edge that flattens the off stump.
22:39 hrs IST: Shubman Gill ends the over brilliantly with a straight driven four off Bhuvneshwar to the long off fence. Kolkata Knight Riders need 30 off 12. Siddarth Kaul will bowl one over, who will bowl the other?
22:34 hrs IST: Just four runs in the over bowled by Siddarth Kaul. Excellent death bowling yet again. Sunrisers Hyderabad need two good overs. Now, we are understanding the value of Rashid Khan’s cameo.
22:26 hrs IST: Shubman Gill punches a neat boundary past extra cover but Piyush Chawla gets a big hit by slogging Khaleel Ahmed over deep mid wicket. Kolkata Knight Riders still in the hunt.
22:21 hrs IST: Rashid Khan’s spell ends. 3/19, in addition to his 34* off 10 balls plus a run-out. Man of the Match performance if there ever was.
22:18 hrs IST: Brilliant captaincy from Kane Williamson. Flatter legbreak on off stump and it kicks up from the deck, Russell goes for the cut and edges it to slip, the man who was positioned just before this delivery. Fantastic bowling and fantastic captaincy
22:14 hrs IST: Shakib Al Hasan created chances for Sunrisers Hyderabad but Andre Russell just manages to survive. If there is one person standing in their way for a final spot, it is Dre Russ. Get him out and the game could be Sunrisers Hyderabad’s. Saha will now be thinking about this situation, having dropped Russell on 3.
22:08 hrs IST: Sunrisers Hyderabad have turned it on here. Flatter delivery on middle and leg stump, Lynn shuffles to the off side and attempts the sweep but gets hit on the pad. It was a dangerous ploy in the first place but Rashid has gotten a massive wicket. Now, the onus is on Andre Russell.
22:05 hrs IST: That is a massive wicket. Dinesh Karthik has been good in finishing games for Kolkata Knight Riders and he falls cheaply. Arm ball drifting in on leg stump, Karthik is cramped for room as he goes for the cut and inside edges it back onto the stumps. Enter Andre Russell. In fact, it is Shubman Gill.
22:01 hrs IST: Rashid Khan flattens Robin Uthappa’s leg stump as the batsman misses the pre-meditated reverse sweep. However, Lynn comes closer to his fifty with a sweep to deep square leg and Dinesh Karthik gets off the mark with a boundary. 11 runs in Rashid’s second over.
21:55 hrs IST: Leading edge but safe! Bhuvneshwar Kumar gets a leading edge and the ball goes past the gap at backward point for a streaky boundary. At the half-way stage, Kolkata Knight Riders need 82 off 60 balls, with eight wickets in hand.
21:48 hrs IST: Rashid Khan is having a great time out in the middle. Nitish Rana nudges a flatter ball to mid wicket and hesitates in taking the second run, the throw is flat to Wriddhiman Saha who breaks the stumps and Nitish Rana is caught short of the crease. The batsman unfortunately slipped while taking the run.
21:45 hrs IST: Lynn continues to hammer the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers as they bowl either too short or too full. A short ball from Carlos Brathwaite is edged to third man and then another short and wide delivery is dispatched to the sweeper cover fence.
21:40 hrs IST: Chris Lynn survives an LBW appeal on review but Wriddhiman Saha made the mistake of not collecting the ball. Could have been given out caught behind. However, Rashid Khan troubles Nitish Rana and Lynn as he concedes just three runs in the over.
21:30 hrs IST: Siddarth Kaul strikes in his first over and sends back the dangerous Sunil Narine as the left-hander holes out to long on. However, Lynn continues to pound the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers and after the end of the powerplay, Kolkata Knight Riders are 67/1 and on course to overhaul the total. What has happened to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s strength?
21:15 hrs IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s gun bowler, is being taken to the cleaners by Narine. He blasts three fours and a six, a mixture of slogs and proper cricketing shots. 19 runs in the over and Kolkata Knight Riders are 38/0 after three overs.
21:11 hrs IST: Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine start brilliantly. Lynn flat-bats a short ball from Bhuvneshwar and Khaleel Ahmed has a torrid debut over. Narine glances him to the fine leg fence but Lynn blasts a short ball over deep cover for a six.
20:50 hrs IST: Rashid Khan has produced a sensational spell of batting here. He blasts two sixes and two fours in the last over bowled by Prasidh Krishna as he concedes 24 runs in the final over. This onslaught has helped Sunrisers Hyderabad reach 174/7 in 20 overs. With the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling still powerful, Kolkata Knight Riders need to play out of their skin to chase this total down.
20:42 hrs IST: Rashid Khan brings up the team 150 in style. He clobbers a six inside out to sweeper cover where Piyush Chawla makes a mess of the catch. On the last ball, he reaches out and creams another six to the deep cover fence.
20:35 hrs IST: Kolkata Knight Riders continue to take wickets at regular intervals. Carlos Brathwaite slams a six off Prasidh Krishna and squeezes a yorker to third man. Nitish Rana dives, stops the ball and then fires a throw to DK to catch Brathwaite short of the crease. No ‘Remember the name’ antiques from the man who hit Ben Stokes for four big sixes in the 2016 World T20.
20:26 hrs IST: The pressure has been built and Deepak Hooda falls. He employs the reverse sweep and holes out to short third man. Yusuf Pathan shoulders arms to the last ball and Sunil Narine ends with figures of 4-0-24-1.
20:19 hrs IST: Disaster for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Deepak Hooda drills a full ball at the non-striker’s end and Kuldeep Yadav gets a hand to it on his followthrough, Shakib is out of the crease and he has to depart for 28.
20:17 hrs IST: A rare, expensive over from Sunil Narine. Shakib creams two boundaries off Narine, one a short ball which is bludgeoned to sweeper cover and other a thwack to deep mid wicket. Deepak Hooda survives a chance as he miscues an inside out drive to the deep extra cover fence.
20:12 hrs IST: Kuldeep Yadav bowls a very good over as Deepak Hooda and Shakib Al Hasan struggle to find the boundary. Kolkata Knight Riders are doing a great job with the ball. How the tables have turned in the play-offs. The team that did not have star bowlers in their ranks is putting up a good show against the power-packed Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers.
20:06 hrs IST: Sunil Narine bowls yet another tight over but Shakib Al Hasan breaks the shackles with a cracking cut to the widish long off fence off Piyush Chawla. He is the key for Sunrisers Hyderabad if they have to reach a total in excess of 160.
19:57 hrs IST: Sunrisers Hyderabad stumble even further. Piyush Chawla darts a full ball on leg stump and Saha attempts to nudge it to the leg side, he does not know where the ball is and wanders out of the crease, DK breaks the stumps but there is confusion on whether he broke the wickets cleanly. After a lot of replays, the decision is out and Saha has to go for 35.
19:54 hrs IST: Kolkata Knight Riders lose a review as Kuldeep Yadav takes a review out of haste. Wriddhiman Saha makes him pay by lapping a sweep shot to the fine leg fence and then unfurls a more conventional sweep to the deep square leg fence.
19:47 hrs IST: Saha capitalises on a loose ball from Prasidh Krishna as he drills a full ball past extra cover for a boundary. He holds the key now as Sunrisers Hyderabad attempt to rebuild following the two strikes from Kuldeep Yadav.
19:43 hrs IST: Kuldeep Yadav is on a role. He bowls the wrong-un and lures Kane Williamson into the drive, gets a big outside edge and Karthik takes a sharp catch standing up. Kolkata Knight Riders are back in the hunt and they will be aiming to go for the kill.
19:39 hrs IST: Kuldeep Yadav gets a wicket first ball. He is pumped and KKR have the breakthrough. Flighted ball on middle and leg stump, Dhawan misses the sweep and is trapped in front and the umpire raises his finger. The left-hander falls for 34 very much at the same where at Lord’s, where a Test match is happening between England and Pakistan, Asad Shafiq falls to Ben Stokes.
19:35 hrs IST: Shikhar Dhawan is looking in great touch as he hammers two boundaries off Piyush Chawla, one a straight drive down the ground and another a flat-batted drive past the bowler.
19:32 hrs IST: Tight over from Sunil Narine as he concedes just five runs in his first over. There were some loose balls from the mystery bowler but he gets away with it. After the powerplay, Sunrisers Hyderabad are 45/0 and looking good for a big score.
19:26 hrs IST: Saha is starting to get into the groove. Shivam Mavi bowls his third over and he is punished by the India Test wicketkeeper. Saha edges a short ball over slip for a streaky boundary to third man but then ends the over in confident style with a boundary to the wide long on fence.
19:22 hrs IST: Shikhar Dhawan is looking in great touch as he blasts a straight drive off Andre Russell to the long off fence and then cracks a short ball past cover-point for a wonderful boundary. Sunrisers Hyderabad have started off well in the powerplay.
19:17 hrs IST: Wriddhiman Saha survives a dropped chance as he miscues a slog off Shivam Mavi, the ball goes high and Dinesh Karthik calls for it but shells the chance. Sunrisers Hyderabad have made a steady start.
19:11 hrs IST: Prasidh Krishna, who impressed in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals, starts well but Shikhar Dhawan ends the over in style by clubbing a short ball over deep mid wicket for the first six of the game.
19:04 hrs IST: Shivam Mavi generates good pace and bounce from the deck. Both Wriddhiman Saha and Shikhar Dhawan are troubled by the pace and bounce as Sunrisers Hyderabad reach 4/0 after the end of the first over
18:35 hrs IST: Kolkata Knight Riders chose to bowl against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier. KKR have made one change, with Shivam Mavi replacing Javon Searles. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, have made three changes, with Manish Pandey, Shreevats Goswami and Sandeep Sharma dropped. Deepak Hooda, Wriddhiman Saha are in while Khaleel Ahmed gets his debut. What an occasion for this pacer from Rajasthan.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson(c), Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan, Deepak Hooda, Wriddhiman Saha(w), Carlos Brathwaite, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Siddarth Kaul, K Khaleel Ahmed
Kolkata Knight Riders: Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik(w/c), Shubman Gill, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi
18:15 hrs IST: Kolkata Knight Riders were boosted by Andre Russell in the game against Rajasthan Royals. However, the real battle will be between Dinesh Karthik and Kane Williamson, two individuals with wonderful captaincy skills and tactical acumen.
18:01 hrs IST: Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost their last four games while Kolkata Knight Riders have momentum on their side. At the Eden Gardens, Dinesh Karthik’s side hold the upper hand but the last encounter between the two teams at this venue, SRH’s bowling stood out and helped them secure an easy win.
After becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs, SRH have suffered four defeats in a row against Royal Challengers Bangalore, KKR and CSK (twice), but they will look to keep all that behind against Dinesh Karthik’s side. On recent form, KKR may be overwhelming favourites to seal a final berth but SRH will be ready for the challenge.
In Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan, SRH have got arguably the best spin attack. KKR will also unleash their spin troika of Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav and Piyush Chawla. KKR bat deep but in Kane Williamson, SRH have the man with the Orange Cap.
