SFU vs WF Commentary

5:39 AM IST Then there were two - What a couple of days we have had in the 2026 MLC playoffs, and we have witnessed three high-scoring and entertaining games, a couple of them really going down to the wire. But now, the grand Finale is all set, and it will be Los Angeles Knight Riders taking on Washington Freedom at the Coliseum in Oakland for the coveted trophy. The Final is scheduled for Saturday, 18 July, beginning at 11.30 pm GMT. As usual, you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up as well. Until then, goodbye and Cheers!
5:35 AM IST The winning captain of Washington Freedom - Steve Smith says that they will take the day off and then prepare for the final. Mentions that it was a hell of an effort, as it got wet out there late on, and applauds Saurabh Netravalkar for the way he bowled that 19th over. Further adds that everything depended on the first ball, and once Saurabh nailed the first yorker, the plan was to keep going for it. Mentions that this team loves playing together and it's been an amazing three years and hopefully, they can win the final. Adds that Ponting is fine, and jokes that their owner nearly had a heart attack watching the final over.
5:34 AM IST Let's now hear from the Unicorns skipper - Matthew Short says that it has been a couple of disappointing days. Feels that they were in a position to win both of those games, but couldn't take the opportunity. Reckons that after what happened last night, any score was possible to gun down, especially under the lights. On the season, Short says that it's been special to play the playoffs in front of the home fans at the Coliseum and thanks them for their support.
5:33 AM IST Player of the Match - Andries Gous gets the accolade for his fine knock of 73 off 40 balls. He says that for him, personally, he loves this team and wants to do well for his teammates and the coaches and that's all the motivation he needs. He adds that they had to keep pushing given the nature of the wicket and talks about playing in the Final, their third one now, and hopes that they can win it. On that missed run out, Gous says that he felt that he had cost them the tournament, but thankfully, things worked out.
5:29 AM IST The Presentation ceremony...
5:28 AM IST Short the saviour, almost - Needing 239 for the win, San Francisco Unicorns lost their openers early and were teetering along in the Powerplay. Matthew Short then went berserk in the 6th over and got them back in the contest. For a while, SFU managed to keep in touch with the required rate but kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. With the score being 1586 in 14.5 overs, the Unicorns were really up against it. However, Short kept fighting and brought up a sensational ton and finally got some support from the other end as Xavier Bartlett breathed new life into the chase. Unfortunately, their antics weren't enough as the Unicorns lost by a small margin of 7 runs.
