UP take important lead

R.P. Singh claimed four wickets against Saurashtra to put former Ranji Trophy champions, UP in a comfortable position. The visitors were 72/3 after having bowled Saurashtra out for 267 and own an overall lead of 200 runs.

First innings centurions Shivakant Shukla (33) and Parvinder Singh (0) were at the crease at the draw of stumps.

Though the visitors lost opener T. Srivastava (8), Ali Murtuza (11) and skipper Mohd Kaif (18) on regular intervals in their second innings, Shukla kept the scoreboard ticking.

RP, who removed Shitanshu Kotak (75) by inducing an edge from him, was well-supported by Shalabh Srivastava, who bagged 4/75. RP finished with figures of 4/83.

It was Kotak who, along with unbeaten Pratik Mehta, gave Saurashtra's total some respectability. The two put on 131 runs for the fourth wicket. Kotak struck nine fours while Mehta hit 69 with the help of eight fours.
