According to the police probing the case, there was no outsider who came to the house on the night of the incident, there were only five persons in the house, nobody woke up Rohit Shekhar Tiwari for at least 16 hours until the time a domestic help found him bleeding and unconscious on his bed. Yet, there was a murder.
The autopsy report by a team of doctors revealed the cause of death as asphyxia (suffocation) due to smothering by a pillow. In these circumstances, the police have not given a clean chit to anyone in the family.
The towels and pillow covers have been allegedly washed, the police said.

“Some of the facts, in this case, are strange. Shekhar had slept on Monday night. Nobody bothered to wake him up until 4pm the following day. It is strange, if not illegal. Our teams found a towel, white sheets and some clothes that were washed. We will probe if it is part of the evidence,” an investigating officer, who did not wish to be named, said.
The officer also added that according to doctors, Shekhar had died more than 15 hours before being brought to the hospital, indicating that he may have been murdered within hours of reaching home, around 11pm the previous night.
Until late Friday night, the local police and the crime branch team were at Shekhar’s house. No senior officer of the Delhi police wished to come on record to comment on the case. A mid-level police officer, who did not wish to be named, said, “We will see who benefits from the case. We hope to crack the case within the next 48 hours.”
Police have learnt that the posh bungalow in Defence Colony where Shekhar was murdered is in his mother, Ujjawala Sharma’s name. Police are probing the motive for murder. Shekhar’s father ND Tiwari, a veteran politician who had served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had accepted Shekhar as his biological son only in 2014 and said that Shekhar would carry his legacy.
Police said one of the witnesses in the case is a domestic help, identified as Shankar, who had last spoken to Shekhar on the night of April 15. Shankar has told police that Shekhar had requested him to massage his back before going to his room. “We are questioning all the persons involved in the case separately. We hope to get a breakthrough soon,” another officer maintained.
