The Delhi cabinet’s decision to increase the ambit of journey from 3 km to 4 km for the base fare of Rs 5 has to become effective.

According to senior Delhi government officials, the lieutenant-governor is yet to stamp his approval on the cabinet’s decision.

While the cabinet had reviewed the bus fare hike at a specially convened meeting on November 10, it took the department three days to send the file to the L-G.

“It took us couple of days to get the minutes of the cabinet meeting confirmed. We could only send the file to the L-G on Friday (November 13). We hope to get it approved by Monday,” said a senior Delhi government official requesting anonymity.

“If it is notified on Monday, the revision will come into effect from Tuesday,” he added.

The DTC will start making special bus passes for people below the poverty line at a subsidised rate of Rs 450 only after the cabinet decision is notified.
