The sacked minorities commission chairman of Uttarakhand was present at the farmhouse where liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep Singh were killed on November 17.

A team of Delhi Police’s crime branch is camping in Uttarakhand and conducted several raids in Gadarpur, Rudrapur and other cities of the hill state.

“His last location was Gadarpur and after that his phone was switched off. We suspect that it was his son who came to Delhi after the shootout and took his father’s gun back to Uttarakhand. Namdhari, in his initial statement, had not told the police that he had fired at Hardeep,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.

Apart from Namdhari’s son, the Delhi Police are also looking for a relative, who along with his son had come to Delhi. “Namdhari is not cooperating and changing his statements frequently. We also cannot trust him as he has turned into a suspect from complainant. We still have to piece together the sequence of events,” said a crime branch officer.

Meanwhile, police have asked their Uttarakhand counterparts to hand over Namdhari’s two guns that they had seized earlier. It is also being verified whether he had an unauthorised weapon. “He has three licensed guns of which two were seized by Uttarakhand police and one by us. All three will be handed over to ballistic experts to confirm which gun Namdhari used at the time of the shootout,” the officer said.
