While most boys were dressed in regular denims, teamed with T-shirts sporting whacky one-liners, the girls were clearly spoilt for choice. Adorned in their best accessories, the girls came to colleges in skirts, capris, denims and shorts teamed with fancy tops.

The traditional Indian salwar-kameez was definitely not happening — at least the dupattas were surely out of question. Long and flowing skirts, cotton tops appeared to be the flavor of the season. A hot and sweltering Monday was hardly a deterrent as most girls across colleges wore lots of make-up alongside oodles of attitude.

“Check me out” was the loud statement, both boys and girls were sending across. Be it co-educational colleges or an all-women’s college, girls seemed comfortable in noodle-strap tops and low-waist jeans or skirts. Asked about the falling waistlines and narrowing straps, pat came a response from Shwetha, a fresher at Gargi, “It looks fashionable and cool and what’s the harm when we don’t seem to mind.”

Another strong fashion flavour coming out clear favourite among girls were nose pins, with every alternate fresher sporting a ring or stone stud. Boys, of course, had little choice on this account and they seemed happy with their sole accessory: bracelets. Coming to footwear, boys flaunted various top brands on their sneakers namely Puma, Reebok and Adidas, while the girls seemed content with their Janpath-branded chappals and jooti’s.
