"The prevailing heat condition together with delay in monsoons has led to an unprecedented increase in demand for power. Against a peak demand of around 1400 MW this year, peak demand in TPDDL area has crossed 1570 MW. Supply from several generating stations has been hit due to various reasons, including breakdowns and shortage in availability of fuel (coal/gas)," said a spokesperson of TPDDL.

The shortages have affected power supply in several areas, including Mukherjee Nagar, Model Town, Civil Lines and Kashmere Gate.
