Profession: He devotes all his time to politics. His main source of income is rent from properties he has in the city. “My forefathers were big landlords and had land in many areas, including Jorbagh,” he said.

Education: Studied till Class XII.

Political career: He joined politics in 1966 and was also a polling agent at one point of time. He was the General Secretary of Block Youth Congress during 1974-1977 and General Secretary of Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress from 1977 to 1984. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1998 and re-elected in 2003. He was Vice-Chairman of Delhi Jal Board between 1998 and 2003.

Family: Wife Dharamvati is a homemaker. They have one daughter and two sons. A sports enthusiast, Shadi Ram loves to swim and also plays kabaddi and volleyball.

Cars: Shadi Ram owns a Honda City, one scooter and a motorcycle.
